This is a Roman pottery flask, c. 1st Century A.D. A perfume flask with an oval body tapering to a wide flat foot, a single small protuberance to the body, tubular neck and a well-formed lip rim. Provenance: from an old private Carlisle Archaeological Collection, acquired in the 1960s - 1980s. The artefact is in fine condition (small chip to the rim), intact and measures 95mm tall.
