This is a Fossil Crane Fly Mortality Plate (Insecta: Order Diptera: Family Tipulidae) found in the Green River Formation, Uintah County, Utah. They date back to the Middle Eocene Period (56 to 33.9 million years ago). The level of detail is excellent and there is absolutely no restoration. There are dozens of larvae displayed on the plate. The larvae measure between 8mm to 10mm long on a matrix measuring 84mm x 56mm.
