This is a Bronze Age Urnfield Culture hollow gouge with lateral flanges forming the socket, c.1300 B.C. – 750 B.C. Late Bronze Age culture of central Europe. Provenance: Property of a professional; acquired on the European art market in the 1980s. The artefact is in fine condition, weighs 96gms and measures 61mm long.

The name Urnfield Culture comes from the custom of cremating the dead and placing their ashes in urns which were then buried in fields.
