This is a Gandharan Scenic Column Fragment, 2nd-3rd century A.D. A fragment of a carved steatite column with horizontal robed figure, frieze of two worshippers in turbans, figure with leaf in the right hand, fold of cloth from his tunic in his left hand. Literature: See, Marshall, J. The Buddhist Art of Gandhara: The story of the Early school, its Birth, Growth and Decline, Cambridge, 1960, fig. 149 for a similar example. Provenance: UK art market, acquired prior to 2000. Mounted on a custom-made stand. The artefact is in good condition, weighs 3.3 kgs and measures including stand 400mm (15 3/4").
