This is a bronze Mini Shrine of Ganesh, South India, Tamil Nadu, Late Chola Period, 13th century A.D. A seated figure of Ganesh in front of a Thiruvachi/ Prabhavali screen, his arms holding an elephant goad (ankusha), a noose (pasha), and displaying a rat figure at the edge of the throne. The mini shrine has been cast in three pieces and both the Thiruvachi/ Prabhavali lifts off as does Ganesh figure. Provenance: from a Canadian Collection, originally acquired from an antique dealer in Chor Bazar, Mumbai, India. The artefact is in fine condition (some wear due to touch during rituals) and measures 90mm tall.
