This is a Lower Palaeolithic, Middle Acheulian (Homo erectus) grey flint Hand-axe from Dorset, c. 300,000 to 200,000 B.C. Bifacially worked with the cutting edge continuous around most of the implement. Provenance: Private Derby Collection, collected 1950s. The artefact is in fine condition with no alterations, restorations or modern re-chipping and measures 118mm x 68mm x 42mm.
