This is a Lower Palaeolithic, Middle Acheulian (Homo erectus) brown flint hand axe / chopper, c.300,000 to 200,000 B.C. The artefact comes from Moortown Pit, Dorset, UK. There are no alterations, restorations or modern re-chipping. Provenance: Ex Henry Dewey (1876-1965) Collection began in 1912. The tool measures 85mm x 67mm wide x 37mm thick and is in fine condition.
