This is a large Lower Palaeolithic, Middle Acheulian (Homo erectus) brown flint Cleaver, c.300,000 to 200,000 B.C. from Longham Pit, Dorset, UK. There are no alterations, restorations or modern re-chipping but displays a nicely worked edge with prehistoric use. Provenance: Ex Henry Dewey (1876-1965) Collection began in 1912. The tool weighs 1.27kgs and measures 153mm x 95mm wide x 98mm thick.
