This is a carefully Pecked and Ground Neolithic Battle Axe found in North-Seeland, Denmark. The battle axe dates from the Singlegrave period 2900-2400 B.C. The axe is made of diabase with drilled a mounting hole. Provenance: Property of a London businessman, from his grandfather's collection formed after World War II; thence by descent 1972. Literature: Cf. Glob, P.V. Danske Oldsager: Yngre Stenalder, Copenhagen, 1952, items 545, 547, 239. The artefact is in very fine condition, weighs 411 grams and measures 110mm long x 51mm x 42mm.
