This is a British Lower Palaeolithic, Clactonian, Homo heidelbergensis, Twydall Flint Proto Cleaver, 400,000 - 300,000 B.C. A bifacial tapered form hand axe with river terrace patination, water-worn surfaces and with an inked collection number: '4K.1096.C / TWYDALL'. Provenance: Found Twydall, Kent, UK. Richard Jones collection, Welling, Kent, UK, 1912-1915. Ex Rochester Museum, Kent collections. Specialist collection of J Edwin Jarvis. Ex Martin Schoyen collection, London, UK. The artefact is in fine condition and measures 101mm. Accompanied by a copy of an article on the site at Twydall.
