This is an Acheulian Hand Axe from the Lower Palaeolithic, 600 - 700.000 B.C. The Hand Axe is a typical African Acheulian shape, bifacially worked with a sharp cleaver point on the distal end and a worked rounded base. Continuous retouches on the edges. Perfect typical brown patina. It is in very fine condition with no modern or old damage. The artefact was discovered at Tafilait, Morocco - Acheulian industry of the Sahara. Provenance: from an old French Colonial Collection, 1920s. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 133mm long x 85mm wide x 32mm thick.
