This is a Fayum Neolithic Sickle Blade, c.4400-4000 B.C., Nabta Playa. A bifacial chert sickle blade used to reap a variety of crops and wild grasses. There are no alterations, restorations or modern re-chipping. Provenance: ex- German collection (Hamburg). The artefact is in fine condition and measures 78mm x 25mm.
Nabta Playa was once a large internally drained basin in the Nubian Desert, located approximately 800 kilometres south of modern-day Cairo or about 100 kilometres west of Abu Simbel in southern Egypt.
