This is a Fayum Neolithic Agate Arrowhead, c.4400-4000 B.C., Nabta Playa. A bifacial tanged arrowhead used on the shores of the Fayum Lake. It was probably used for hunting in the marshes around the lake. There are no alterations, restorations or modern re-chipping. Provenance: Ex-Petra Berhout Collection. The artefact is in fine condition and measures 32mm x 17mm.
Nabta Playa was once a large internally drained basin in the Nubian Desert, located approximately 800 kilometres south of modern-day Cairo or about 100 kilometres west of Abu Simbel in southern Egypt.
