This is a Roman Decorated Oil Lamp, 2nd - 3rd century A.D. from Damascus, Syria, 200 - 300 A.D. A mould-made cream coloured ceramic oil lamp with a ring circular base, curved walls, no handle with angled shoulder and depicting in relief an oil lamp close to the spout, other symbols and circular decorations. Provenance: from an old West Sussex private collection formed in the 1950s. The artefact is in fine condition (as excavated) and measures 84mm long.
