This is an American Indian Grooved Axe, Late Archaic 5500 to 2500 B.C., found in Scioto County Ohio. A hard-stone polished axe head broken above the groove but displaying a well-shaped cutting edge. Provenance: From an old Bath Collection acquired in the 1970s. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 84mm x 63mm x 17mm.
