This is a Kashan Silhouette-Ware Pottery Jug, Central Iran, 12th - 13th Century A.D. A glazed jug with a bulbous body rising from straight raised foot with short strap handle and a straight neck. The body is moulded with a black underglaze under a thick opaque turquoise glaze and with applied decoration. Cf. See Arthur Lane, 'Early Islamic Pottery '(1947), Faber and Faber, London. Provenance: from an old Surrey Islamic and Oriental Collection. The vessel has been repaired with losses, but still a collectable piece of Islamic Art History. The artefact measures 86mm tall x 87mm diameter.
