This is a Byzantine brown terracotta oil lamp, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D. An oil lamp with solid lug handle, a quatrefoil design forming a cross below the central filler hole, channel around fill-hole, small ring base and decorated with laurel-wreath around the shoulder. From an old Hastings antiquities collection. The artefact is in very fine condition, intact, some restoration to the handle and measures 83mm x 63mm x 44mm.
