This is a Byzantine Hinged Bronze Reliquary Crucifix, c. 9th to early 12th century A.D. A bronze double cross – Enkolpion with incised and relief-cast decoration; a central Christ on the Cross image with the roundel finials containing facing busts of saints on one cross and Saint Nicholas placed central with the roundel finials containing facing busts of saints. Provenance: Ex-Eisenberg Collection. The artefact is in fine condition (pin missing from the hinge) and measures 83mm high.
