This is a Byzantine terracotta oil lamp, c. 640 A.D. A ceramic oil lamp once with a solid lug handle, grey oval body, large central filler hole, concave base and indication of some decoration around the shoulder. Provenance: from the G H Freelander collection, formed in the late 1970s and acquired from J. Zadok & Sons, Jerusalem with original certificate. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 82mm long x 60mm wide x 38mm high.
