This is a Byzantine terracotta oil lamp, c. 640 A.D. A ceramic oil lamp with no handle, oval body, central filler hole, concave base and decorated with simplified plant designs around the shoulder. Provenance: from the G H Freelander collection, formed in the late 1970s and acquired from J. Zadok & Sons, Jerusalem with original certificate. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 91mm long x 65mm wide x 36mm high.
