This is a Byzantine terracotta pottery oil lamp, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D. A Byzantine pottery oil lamp decorated with a band of raised decoration around the shoulder, large central filler hole, channel around fill-hole, a flat base with a cross as a maker’s mark and a partial knob handle. Provenance: from the G H Freelander collection, formed in the late 1970s and acquired from J. Zadok & Sons, Jerusalem with original certificate. The artefact is in fine condition (chip to the spout, as found when excavated) and measures 86mm long x 60mm wide x 37mm high.
