This is a Byzantine Decorated Bronze Cross, c. 10th to 12th century A.D. A bronze cross rendered in relief, depicting on one side the central medallion the Corpus, with busts of five saints in rectangular medallions around him, and on the other side, Christ being Baptised with busts of four saints in rectangular medallions around him above a long mounting tang. Provenance: Ex Private Bath Archaeological Collection. The artefact is in very fine condition (beautiful hard olive-green patina), weighs 167gms and measures 129mm tall.
