This is a Byzantine terracotta oil lamp, c. 6th - 7th Century A.D. A ceramic oil lamp with solid lug handle, pale buff oval body, a design forming below the central filler hole, channel around fill-hole, small ring base and decorated with a square chain design around the shoulder. Provenance: from an old Carmarthen Collection acquired prior to 1930. The artefact is in very fine condition, complete, intact and measures 98mm x 68mm x 42mm tall.
