This is a Pre-Columbian Double Spout Pottery Stirrup Vessel, Costa Rica, c.1000- 1200 A.D. An Orangeware terracotta vessel, rounded body topped by two short round spouts joined by a wide flat handle. Decorated with a complex incised geometric pattern design, the burnished surface is a deep orange-red with areas of red and dark brown. Provenance: From an old Colchester collection. Although the condition id good, there is some wear to the spouts and the handle has been repaired. Measures 180mm tall x 140mm in diameter.
