This is a Pre-Columbian Chavin Culture Mace Head from the North Coast of Peru, c.800 B.C. An early mace head of black hardstone, well-carved with six spikes. Originally attached to wooden staff. Provenance: Ex Private Derby Pre-Columbian collection. The artefact weighs 628gms and measures 70mm tall x 125mm at the widest point. The mace is intact and in fine condition, some surface chipping and wear.
