This is a Pre-Columbian Chorrera Culture, Ecuador, Terracotta Bowl, 1100 B.C. - 300 B.C. A hand formed terracotta bowl with a short ring base, decoration to the rim and a deep red colour to the inside. Provenance: From the Zuckerman Collection, collected in Quito, Ecuador in the early 1970s by her grandparents and passed down by decent. The artefact is in good condition (chip to the rim, crack to the side and some damage to the base) and measures 82mm tall x 185mm in diameter.

The Pre-Columbian cultures of Ecuador are among the oldest in South America and among the first to master the art of pottery. The Chorrera, lasting from circa 1100-300 B.C. little is known of this culture; however, it is significant for its widespread geographical reach.
