This is a Pre-Columbian Chorrera Culture, Ecuador, Terracotta Bowl, 1100 B.C. - 300 B.C. A deep hand formed terracotta bowl with a rounded base and a utensil fixing point to the rim. Provenance: From the Zuckerman Collection, collected in Quito, Ecuador in the early 1970s by her grandparents and passed down by decent. The artefact is in fine condition (chip to the rim) and measures 100mm tall x 145mm in diameter.
The Pre-Columbian cultures of Ecuador are among the oldest in South America and among the first to master the art of pottery. The Chorrera, lasting from circa 1100-300 B.C. little is known of this culture; however, it is significant for its widespread geographical reach.
