This is a Pre-Columbian Chorrera Culture, Ecuador, Clay Bowl, 1100 B.C. - 300 B.C. A broad hand formed clay bowl with a with flared pedestal base, displaying some linear decoration to the inside. Provenance: From the Zuckerman Collection, collected in Quito, Ecuador in the early 1970s by her grandparents and passed down by decent. The artefact is in fine condition (chip to the rim) and measures 71mm tall x 148mm in diameter.
The Pre-Columbian cultures of Ecuador are among the oldest in South America and among the first to master the art of pottery. The Chorrera, lasting from circa 1100-300 B.C. little is known of this culture; however, it is significant for its widespread geographical reach.
