This is a stone Spear Point from the Mississippian Culture, c. 900 to 1000 A.D., discovered close to the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village, South Dakota, USA. Provenance: from an old Boston, USA, India Artefact collection. Although the Spear Point has the tip missing, it is in fine condition and measures 110mm x 38mm.
The people who lived at the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village were farmers and hunted bison. These people are believed to have been the ancestors of the Mandan.
