This is a nicely crafted chert stone Blade from the Mississippian Culture, c. 900 to 1000 A.D., discovered close to the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village, South Dakota, USA. Provenance: from an old Boston, USA, India Artefact collection. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 62mm x 30mm.

The people who lived at the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village were farmers and hunted bison. These people are believed to have been the ancestors of the Mandan.
