This is a Russian painted icon, gesso, tempera on wooden panel, 18th/19th century. The Holy Archangel Michael is one of the most celebrated of the Angels and bodiless powers; he is called the Archistrategos, or chief commander, of all the bodiless powers. Provenance : The Michael and Renate Lancaster collection. The work is in fine condition for the age and measures 210mm x 168mm.
