This is a Russian painted icon, gesso, tempera on wooden board, 17th/18th century. The iconic image of Christ Pantocrator ("Christ, Ruler of All") was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Provenance : The Michael and Renate Lancaster collection. The work is in good condition for the age and measures 300mm x 256mm.
