This is a Russian Triptych Icon Plaque on chain, c. 18th century A.D. A high-relief triptych with Mary and infant Jesus in the central panel and the twelve Apostles in the three-tiered arcades in the side panels. In the square panel above the central image is the Lamb of God. Provenance: from the Constable-Maxwell Collection (Lord McAlpine); formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images'; acquired on the London art market 1990s-2007. The artefact is in very fine condition and measures 92mm x 64mm when open.
