This is a Majapahit Terracotta Head of a Man, Majapahit Empire, region of Trowulan, Eastern Java, Indonesia, 13th-14th century A.D. A well-modelled terracotta head with detailed features and wearing earrings, hair styled into buns. Provenance: ex-Mary & Peter White collection. The artefact is in fine condition and measures 83mm tall (185mm including the base).
Cf. The heads are almost always found independently, with no bodies in sight. It is thought that these figures represent offerings to the gods for bountiful harvests.
