These are two Tau Tau Heads from the Toraja People, South Central Sulewesi, Indonesia, 19th Century. Two funerary peg heads with bald scalps, the facial features are delicate, with grooves that delineate the piercing eyes and shallow lips. Below the neck is a cylindrical protrusion that would have been slotted into the carving of its body and represents an attempt at commemorating a deceased person. Provenance: Ex Private Surrey Ethnographic Collection. The artefacts are in very fine condition, display wear from being outside and measure 357mm and 215mm long.
