This is an Acheulian (Homo erectus) Hand Axe from the Middle of the Acheulian c.780,000 to 400,000 B.C. found in southern England. The Narrow Butted Stone Axe is rough formed in a banded greenstone, a narrow rounded butt with the sides tapering to a convex blade. Provenance: From an old Hastings antiquities collection. The artefact shows signs of use, is in fine condition and measures 196mm long.
